This grand tree is one of the many near the Trail of Ten Falls in Oregon's Silver Falls State Park. We passed it toward the end of our long hike, and I had such joy painting the moss-covered branches and trunk in soft pastels on sanded paper. Even in decline, this beautiful being carried dignity and resilience into yet another year. We were grateful to have witnessed it.
