Luminous Magnolia Grandiflora

This pastel painting was created based on a photo I took in Astoria, New York. I grew up with a magnolia tree in front of my house. I enjoyed that tree for over 23 years watching the beautiful petals fall on the grass and then re-bloom the following year. Years later after I moved, I had the same magnolia tree in front of my apartment. Now I have a baby magnolia blooming in front of my new house. I liked the softness of the background and how it blended with the main magnolia flower in front. I loved the way the colors played off each other. I like to use very vibrant colors and alot of texture in my art. This painting took me many hours from start to finish to execute the level of detail and show the delicate textures.
