From my observations at the Oregon Zoo's very expansive primate enclosure. Some of the primates were "retired" and rescued from animal research. After a life spent in captivity, living in the wild is not an option, but they now have room to roam, opportunities to be seen and opportunities for privacy - it's their choice.
