Dreaming
This is a pastel painting done on a Richeson gaiter foam board in terra-cotta. I took the photo of this lion at the Washington DC National Zoo. It was in the middle of a very cold and overcast winter and we had an unexpected sunny, warm day. All of the animals in the zoo were out of their homes and laying out enjoying the sunshine. I just remember them all looking so content. For this painting I concentrated on warm and cool colors, and values, to enhance the colors in the lion’s mane.
