Palcoyo
I wanted to work with a limited palette of colors chosen from my memory of visiting Palcoyo Mountain in Peru. This location is known for it's high elevation (16,000 ft) and it's multi-colored soil, being one of multiple Rainbow Mountains in Peru. I zeroed in on representing the ferric soil with red, the highland grasses with yellow-greens and the clear air with violet blue. I worked in layers of soft and medium-hard Rembrandt pastels together to create lively line work and to "blend," creating broken color and vibration throughout the piece.
