Journey's Respite

When I came upon this scene on a trail in a state park where I live I was struck by how the sunlight highlighted the snow on the rocks and reflected in the pool below. Two different feelings within the same scene intrigued me and I wanted to capture that moment of awe. I began with a hard pastel/gamsol underpainting and finished with a variety of soft pastels.
